Summers in Ocean City, NJ are synonymous with long days on the beach, sunsets over the bay and evening strolls on the boardwalk. So what is there to do in the winter, where the days are shorter, darker, and, unfortunately, colder?

1. First Things First- Watch the Sunrise.

The day’s are shorter and it’s cold all the time. We get it, winter stinks. But at least there’s the chance to watch the sunrise without having to wake up excruciatingly early. And sunrises over the ocean in OCNJ are something special. Get ready for picture-perfect moments, and don’t forget your camera.

While you’re up, walk, bike, or drive over to one of Ocean City’s local coffee shops for a pick-me-up or sweet treat at local favorites like Drip & Scoop or Ocean City Coffee Co.

2. Experience Some Christmas Magic

This winter, homes all over town are lit up for a holiday decorating contest. Look around town for free horse and carriage rides, photos with santa, and much more that will make your visit to OCNJ feel like you’re walking in a winter wonderland.

4. Go to the Arcade

Jilly’s Arcade is open year-round so you can play pinball, shoot skee-ball, or discover your new favorite racing game. Rain or shine, this is the place to let your inner child run wild. Don’t forget to grab a souvenir in the photo-booth or take your chances with a claw machine.

5. Ring In the New Year

7. Hit the Beach

While running into the ocean with temperatures possibly below freezing isn’t for everyone, hitting the beach in the winter can be. Stroll down with your beach chairs, double up on blankets, watch the waves crash, and get some sand between your toes!

8. Go Shopping…Duh!

If you forgot to snag a summer souvenir or you need last minute holiday gifts- Ocean City’s your place. Visit well-known shops on Asbury Avenue like 7th Street Surf Shop and Tah-Dah, or check out some local favorites like the Little Egg Harbor Soap Company, Mia’s Christmas Gallery (now located on Asbury), or Mew to You.
