So, 2017 is here and that means you need to get a jump start on booking your summer vacation in America’s Greatest Family Resort! Properties book in the blink of an eye around here and there is no time to waste. Plus, this summer the town will be showing off more of its newly renovated boardwalk around 9th Street. In case there weren’t enough reasons to spend a week (or two) in this incredible town… they’re giving you one more!
The boardwalk construction around 9th Street is the fourth phase in a five-year, $3 million reconstruction project that aims to replace the boardwalk decking and substructure between 5th Street and 12th Street. With the entirety of the work being done in the off-season, it began in the fall of 2013 and will be completed in the 2017-18 off-season. Additionally, there will also be several more boardwalk ramps added in the 2018-19 off-season. The purpose is to renew the deteriorating condition of the concrete substructure and to provide regular maintenance of boardwalk decking.
The fourth phase began right after Columbus Day 2016, closing the boardwalk between 8th Street and 10th Street. The new boards will be made from southern yellow pine and this phase is expected to be completed in March 2017. The section between 8th Street and the Ocean City Music Pier was completed by December 31st, 2016 in time for Ocean City’s First Night festival.
The well-known 9th Street pizza place, Manco & Manco, has jumped on the opportunity to expand their flagship location by buying their neighboring property, which happens to be the old Strand Theatre. The Strand went out of business in 2014. The remodeled pizzeria is anticipated to open in April 2017. Manco & Manco’s name will be displayed in lights across the former theater’s marquee and the new restaurant is expected to have more seating, as well as a boutique retail store.
