In the the 2017-2018 off-season, Ocean City put funding into completing projects that will improve the island on the beach, the bay and everything in between. The city is always looking for ways to improve and to guarantee that all locals and visitors are able to comfortably enjoy and experience Ocean City at its best!

Roads and Drainage

Over the next five years, Ocean City will work to improve roads and drainage. The island has struggled with flooding in the past, especially during hurricane season. This plan includes progressing drainage in the most flood-prone neighborhoods on the island to minimize flood damage!

Beach

The south end beach restoration work completed in May 2016. However, it is scheduled for replenishment sometime in late 2018 or early 2019. More recently, North End beach replenishment was completed in December 2017. This added about 1.3 million cubic yards of sand to the beaches and built onto the dunes near 5th Street and 10th Street.

Boardwalk

Ocean City is nearing the end of its FINAL PHASE of a multi-year long project to rebuild the most populated areas of the boardwalk: from 5th Street to 12th Street. The entire old and deteriorated boardwalk has been demolished and removed as of January 25. The block between 10th and 11th street is completed and reopened. The 11th Street entrance will be the last portion to be completed and will gain a new pavilion near 12th Street.

Bike Racks:

Starting Spring 2018, on-street bike parking installation will begin. The bike racks will be found at 40 locations throughout the city plus storage shelter at 9th Street and Haven Avenue. The city plans to install racks on 30 street-end locations on beach blocks and 10 in-street locations near businesses. This project should be completed just in time for Summer 2018.

Playgrounds

Repairs to the 34th Street playground are complete and new equipment and repairs to the 52nd Street playground are complete, as well. A new rubber surface, new equipment and a new bathroom facility are scheduled for North Street playground. A new bathroom will be installed at the 29th Street playground.
